Founded in 2010, Mohawk Valley Young Professionals seeks to meet the needs of young professionals in the Mohawk Valley through five main areas – Networking, Social Activities, Volunteering, Professional Development and Advocacy.
Membership
Membership in MVYP is open to anyone who wishes to participate, and there are no membership fees. We represent a diverse cross section of the Mohawk Valley and encourage anyone who feels they will benefit from the group participate however they wish to. There is no formal process for joining; if you are young, live in the Mohawk Valley, and are career minded – consider yourself a member!
Networking
Helping foster connections between young professionals, community members, business professionals, and each other is one of the primary goals of the Mohawk Valley Young Professionals. To do this, MVYP provides a variety of opportunities for networking – in fact, networking is a component of all of our events and programs. Opportunities to network are everywhere from a MVYP hosted happy hours to volunteer events to community events attended by MVYP.
Professional Development
With our MVYP “Professional Development Speaker Series,” we wish to provide valuable insight, guidance, and advice through lecture presentations from some of our most successful local professionals who represent a variety of fields. If you’re looking for tips on career advancement, community involvement, marketing, self promotion, financial planning, et cetera – this is a series that you won’t want to miss. Additionally, MVYP strives to connect our members with further information about and opportunities for professional development.
Social Events
Learning all that the Mohawk Valley has to offer and developing relationships is an important part of living and working here. MVYP hosts monthly social events which are fun, laid back, and open to anyone. Through these events, members have the opportunity discover new places in the area, meet new people, and have fun. Additionally, MVYP tries to make our members aware of cool, interesting, and fun events in the community.
Volunteering
Mohawk Valley Young Professionals is dedicated to giving back to the community and being caring, committed, and conscientious member of the Mohawk Valley. In addition to the many volunteer and service activities that our members do individually, MVYP coordinates group volunteer opportunities on a bi-monthly basis.
Advocacy
We know that is important for young professionals in the area to be educated, informed, and vocal about issues of interest in our community. MVYP educates our members about issues effecting them and advocates on behalf of young professionals to other organizations, local government, and in the business community. By raising our voices and getting involved, we will be able to make a positive and lasting impact on the area.
